Indian Music Legends on Nokia N series

After Bollywood Monetizing heavily on the Mobile Platform, it is time for Nokia. Nokia executive Vineet Taneja along with India's famous Ghazal Singer, Jaggit Singh, launched Nokia N Series Music edition pre-loaded with 100 songs by Indian Music Legends - Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Mohammaed Rafi and Mann Dey.

These set of N series Phones with pre-loaded 100 songs will cost between Rs 20, 000 and Rs 30, 000. The songs come with DRM and you won't be able to transfer the songs to any other mobile. Transferring maybe done from certain handsets but they can't be played on any other handset :-)

This is a very good initiative from Nokia however, paying additional Rs 3,000 for 100 songs seems to be pricey? Right ?

Hutch introduces i-mode to Indians

Troubled Hutch CEO, Asim Ghosh is showing no signs of weariness. I haven't been able to test their Plant Hutch services but looks like they want a bigger pie of the Mobile Value Added Servieces market.

Asim Ghosh negotitated with Japanese NTT DoCoMo to introduce i-mode technology to Hutch customers in India. What is i-mode anyway ? i-mode is a proprietary packet-based information service for mobile phones. i-mode delivers information (such as mobile banking, and train timetable) to mobile phones and enables exchange of email from handsets.

To use i-mode, you need to use i-mode enabled phone and here are some popular i-mode phones,
In India, Hutch plans to import i-mode enabeld handset and intends to sell them below Rs 4,500. i-mode service is charged just like the GPRS and in Japan where it is very popular, subscribers pay as high as $ 25 / Month to avail i-mode services.

Nokia N Series - Podcast Phones - Multimedia Computers

As I have already said in the past, Nokia is quietly racing towards convergence adding more and more features to their phones.

Podcast is one of the successful applications of Web 2.0 and it didn't take much time for Nokia to enable their N series phones to be Podcast compatible [You can subscribe and listen to Podcasts. Can't record one like in iPod, but using external applications and depending on the amount of memory available, you can record a Podcast]

Nokia has released few N series phones as Internet Editions / Multimedia Computers. N80, N91 and N93 are Podcast compatible. Though you have to install this software to listen to Podcast. I am wondering why can't the same software be installed on N70 and still be able to listen to Podcasts ? Any ideas ?

Nokia Mobile TV with Doordarshan in India

Nokia, India's number one mobile handset company in association with state owned TV network, Doordarshan will launch Mobile TV in Jan-07. Nokia will power this service using its DVB-H broadcast mobile TV open standard-based technology.

During the pilot project, Doordarshan will test the reception quality, coverage and explore the options of supporting different service schemes such as advertising and interactive services.

How is Mobile TV broadcast different from 3G streaming already available on platforms like Planet Hutch ?

Mobile TV works by receiving a digital TV broadcast signal optimized for mobile devices from the air in much the same way as TVs at home do. While in case of streaming video service over 3G or GPRS each user gets a dedicated stream. In case of Mobile TV, one simultaneous TV broadcast stream can be received by any number of users.
