| Tata beats Reliance in Mobile Advertising |
|
In race for Telecom bucks coming from Value Added Services, Tata Indicom is launching services ahead of Reliance Communications in the CDMA space. We saw Reliance Communications following into the footsteps of Tata Indicom on Monday when they launched Mobile Streaming Radio as well.
Just a while ago, Tata Indicom announced that it has tied up with Mast Mobile Media, a subsidiary of eMbience of San Diego to bring Interactive Mobile Advertising on Tata Indicom phones which are BREW compatible. However, Tata Indicom is few months behind Bharti Airtel which launched its Interactive Mobile Advertising platform in Delhi in association with Affle / SMS 2.0.
So what can Tata Indicom users expect from the new mobile advertising platform ? Tata Indicom's downloadable music, ringtone and wallpaper applications with Infotainment products are slated for mobile ads next quarter. Ads in Tata Zone's BREW applications support many "click-to" actions including interactive voting, free ringtone download, coupons, SMS and call.
Reliance ADAG changed its direction to focus on GSM. However, the GSM lobby is pretty strong and Reliance's PAN-India GSM may not come true until 2009 or 2010. |

| Reliance Communications Local Radio |
|
Reliance Communications is competing hard with Tata Indicom. Exactly a week after Tata Indicom introduced streaming radio service, RCom announced the launch of Mobile Radio in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarat and Punjabi. The idea of Mobile Radio is to attract customers who don't have a FM enabled handset and also in Cities where FM is not available.
To access Reliance Mobile Radio, dial 51234777 or 51234778. You will have to listen to a short announcement and then it gives you a choice to be a subscriber at Rs 30 / Month with Mobile Radio costs at Rs 1 / Minute. However, if you don't want to subscribe then you can listen to Mobile Radio for Rs 3 / Minute.
IMHO, the service is extremely expensive at Rs 1 or Rs 3 / Minute. Maybe Reliance might want to revise the tariffs and attract more customers. |

| Why is Nokia Tying with Yellow Pages ? |
|
At the Nokia Connection 2007 in Singapore, Nokia unveiled that it will tie up with regional Yellow Pages in 5 countries - India, Malayasia, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand to offer "Local Search" service on Nokia N Series phones. Infomedia India is Nokia's partner in India. However, their are other Yellow Pages that are better than Infomedia in India.
Currently, Yahoo! is the default search facility on Nokia N Series [Atleast, on N70 Music Edition] You don't have an option to change it to Google. To access Google, you need to open the browser and then use http://m.google.com
I am beginning to wonder Nokia's interest in bundling such a suite. I need a choice of at least 3 competitors. If the Apple iPhone lives up to the hype, then Nokia will have a bumpy ride selling its premium range phones. |

| Highest Talk Time by BSNL Subscribers |
|
BSNL Subscribers speak them most when one measures the number of outgoing minutes contributed by cellular subscribers leaving Airtel and Vodafone-Hutch-Essar behind in the race. Reliance Infocomm comes close second to BSNL.
In a study by TRAI, it is found that BSNL subscribers have the highest minutes of mobile usage across 10 states which include - Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh [East and West], Rajasthan, Orissa, Assam and Tamilnadu. Now wondering how BSNL is supreme ? Most of these states are backward and BSNL with its ambitious One India plan extended coverage in these states first and Reliance Communications followed. Thus subscribers in these backward states have no choice of communication but live with BSNL.
Airtel and Vodafone-Hutch-Essar rule the mobile usage survey in the forward and educated circles of Karnataka, Gujarat Punjab, Mumbai and Delhi. |
