| Reliance Vs Airtel - Customer Care is the Difference |
|
Handsets Makers in India have little value for consumers buying high end handsets. Lately, high end handsets are launched by Cellular operators in association with handset manufacturers and in one such instance Blackberry and Reliance Communications are in trouble.
Motilal Oswal Venture Capital's VP - Mr. Anuranjan Mohnot has sent a legal notice under the unfair trade practice clause to Reliance communications and Blackberry. The internal screeon of Manoj's handset was cracked and when he went to the Reliance Blackberry center, he was told to BUY a new handset as the cost of replacing the screen was whopping Rs 12,000 and the cost of new handset Rs 15,000.
Reliance Communications washed off its hands saying its the responsibility of Manufacturer. If this is the fate of esteemed corporate customers such as Manoj, then what about other Reliance Mobile subscribers ?
Bharti Airtel known and excelling in India for its unmatched customer care and business model said they have dedicated helpline to provide hardware and software support with RIM certified engineers. They can also provide with standby Blackberry handsets so that no users face any disruption of services. |

|
Virgin Mobile, Franchisee of Tata Indicom has dropped the STD / NLD Tariffs by 50% to mere Rs 0.50 / minute. Virgin subscribers will be billed for the first 3 minutes of the STD call at Rs 1.5 / minute and after that all STD calls from the 4th minute onwards on that day will be charged just Rs 0.50 / minute.
Mr. M. A. Madhusudan, CEO, Virgin Mobile India said,
Youth are high users of mobile services. This offer will meet their behavioral needs by providing a value proposition on long distance calling. New 50 paise STD Local tariff enjoys special significance given the fact that urban youth have a strong need for STD which comprises around 25% of their outgoing usage (in minutes) but importantly their spends on STD are as high as 50%. Our pocket friendly STD call rate will now help our youth customers make longer and more regular calls to their friends and family across the country.
From their Advertisements of Candy Foxx - Accountant Mahalingam to New 50 Paise STD Local Tariff, Virgin Mobile is definitely Thinking Hatke - "Thinking Outside the Box". |

| 3G Policy Changes |
|
3G licensing is a massive lobbying by Indian Foreign Telcos. There have been some changes to the original policy and the highlights are as stated below. [Italics - Old Policy]
- CDMA Players will now have to bid in the auction process for 3G spectrum [Earlier they were assured of spectrum if they could match the winning bid]
- 1% of incremental revenues coming from 3G services only, to be payable after a period of one year. [Earlier, 1% of Average Gross Revenues (AGR)]
- Favors Foreign Telcos: Telcos that do not hold a UASL license, but have experience in running 3G services, must give an undertaking (no additional money) to obtain the UASL to begin services. [Earlier, A foreign player had to gain UASL (Unified Access Service Licence), which means it had to pay Rs.16.5 bn and Rs.20.2 bn, license fee + 3G reserve fees even before the bidding begins]
- Mergers & Acquisitions: Foreign players who are successful in gaining 3G license can now acquire an existing 2G license holder without having to wait for 3 years. [Earlier, they had to wait for 3 years before they could acquire an Indian telco offering 2G services]
Over the next 4-5 years, new entrants in the Indian Telecom sector could aim to garner a significant market share and will be the disruptive forces causing the next phase of price wars and reducing the value of the entire pie for even existing players. |
